There is no greater time to be in Florida than the holidays. Spending November and December in 30A is bound to be a memorable experience for you and your family. Have fun exploring new traditions and celebrating cherished customs.

1. Build a sand snowperson on the beach! The water this time of year is pretty chilly, but the air temperatures are perfect for hanging out on the beach. Unleash your creativity by building sand sculptures. Need some guidance? Classes are available at https://beachsandsculptures.com.

2. See the lights. It may be unusual to gaze upon Christmas lights in shorts and flip-flops, but it does not diminish their beauty. Several communities along 30A have light displays (Rosemary Beach, Alys, Watercolor, Seaside, and the Village of Baytowne Wharf), but if you are looking for a new adventure, drive a little further North to DeFuniak Springs. They boast 10 million lights in the historic district surrounding the spring-fed lake. For more information and directions, click the link here: Defuniak Spring Christmas Reflections

3. Run a Race. If you want to stay active and preemptively burn off your Thanksgiving meal, register to run a 10K, 5K, or 1K in Rosemary Beach on Thanksgiving Day. The 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races' mission is to raise funds for local non-profits and to promote the spirit of health and wellness.

4. Go for a stroll. Join Master Gardener Bill Kuenstler at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park on the third Monday of each month from 9:00 am – 11:00 am for a Guided Plant Stroll. Walk and take in the park, explore the plants, and discover what is in bloom. You will learn about some of the plant species in the Preserve based on the time of year and growing season. This is free with regular park admission.

5. Paddle with Santa. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of Santa on his YOLO board unwinding after he delivers his goodies. As I mentioned before, the ocean water is cold, so I recommend wearing a wet suit...and don't fall off your paddle board :) Check out YOLO board for tours and tribe pop-up paddle events.
