Have you ever thought about your home's humidity level? Probably not, but if it is greater than 50% indoors, there's a greater risk of mold developing. Typically mold thrives in temperatures higher than 70 degrees F, but many species of mold can grow in humid conditions alone. Mold growths, or colonies, can grow on a damp surface within 24 to 48 hours! They reproduce by spores - tiny, lightweight "seeds"- that travel through the air. Molds digest organic material, eventually destroying what they grow on, and then spread to destroy adjacent organic material. In addition to the structural damage, mold can also cause mild to severe health problems such as headaches, respiratory conditions, skin irritations, fatigue, lung disease, and even cancer. Mold remediation is necessary once the damage is found. This can be expensive, time-consuming, and perhaps more painful than stepping on a Lego! Medical attention may also be needed from the mold exposure to address the health issues that resulted.
Prevention is key. Stop mold before it has a chance to get a grip on your home. Thankfully mold that lives in high humidity can be controlled in your home through proper ventilation and the use of a dehumidifier. Honesty Guard Homewatch checks the humidity and temperature of your home at each home visit. If either falls outside of the "safe zone," we'll contact you and your preferred HVAC provider to get the situation under control.
